WHAT IS INDEPENDENT STUDY and
DISTANCE LEARNING?
Adult independent study enables an individual to maintain home and work responsibilities
while working toward his or her goal of achieving a high school diploma.
Students
must:
• be willing to spend fifteen hours per week on their assignments and one
hour per week with their instructor.
• read at the ninth grade level
• be motivated to work independently.
Learning through independent study is voluntary and offers an alternative or
supplement to learning by individualized and small group instruction in the Learning
Center.
